Dr. Mutulu Shakur, born in Baltimore and raised in Queens, was deeply involved in the Black Liberation Movement, though not a formal member of the Black Panther Party he supported the movement and stood behind it 100%. A skilled acupuncturist and healer, he focused on holistic health and community well-being. He was also the father of hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur.

Mutulu’s activism led to significant challenges, including a long prison sentence, making him a symbol of resilience and sacrifice. Targeted by the FBI’s counterintelligence program, he dedicated his life to fighting for marginalized communities.

Talib Shakur grew up in Queens without knowing his father, although his biological father Mutulu lived right next door. Raised by a single mother, he turned to the streets at an early age, searching for ways to contribute to his mother’s house and find stability. His path led to incarceration for over 16 years, but during his time in prison, he underwent a deep spiritual awakening.

Ironically, while Mutulu’s journey led to prison, Talib’s transformation would ultimately lead him to redemption and freedom—both physically and emotionally.

A Shocking Discovery

Throughout his life, people often told Talib, “You look like Mutulu Shakur.” But it wasn’t until his late forties that he learned the truth—Mutulu Shakur was his biological father. This revelation sent him on a journey to uncover his father’s story. A powerful first meeting between the two led to a deep bond built on shared struggles and newfound love.
