A 10-Episode Docu-Series on Mutulu & Talib Shakur
Scrilla Guerillaz Films has officially signed a deal to produce a 10-episode docu-series exploring the life and legacy of Dr. Mutulu Shakur and his son, Talib Shakur. The series, produced by Jesse (Daze) Swindell and executive produced by Talib Shakur, sheds light on the powerful journey of a Black revolutionary, healer, and father—and the son who never knew his true identity.
Talib Shakur grew up in Queens, New York, unaware that his father was the legendary Mutulu Shakur. Raised in a tough environment, Talib was shaped by the same systemic struggles his father fought against—poverty, racial injustice, and mass incarceration. His path led him through crime and imprisonment, mirroring a fate his father endured decades earlier. However, Talib’s story took a transformative turn, leading him toward self-discovery, redemption, and an eventual meeting with his father for the first time.
The series delves deep into Mutulu Shakur’s impact as a leader in the Black Liberation Movement, an acupuncturist and holistic healer, the father of hip-hop icon 2Pac, and a target of the FBI’s COINTELPRO. It also examines the parallels between father and son, revealing how Mutulu’s fight for justice unknowingly shaped the life of Talib Shakur, despite their decades of separation.
This powerful documentary is a story of struggle, resilience, and the unbreakable bond of family—a testament to the ongoing fight for justice and the power of reconnection against all odds.
